Arrowpoint Nature Resort is named after the many Arrow Trees found in the area, which is used by the Amerindians to make their arrows for hunting. The Resort itself is set against the backdrop of the Rainforest which is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lover since there is an abundance of wildlife including 350 species of birds. There is also a maze of jungle trails used for Nature Walks and Mountain Biking. In the foreground is a stretch of white sandy beach sloping gently into the refreshing cool blackwaters of the Pokerero Creek.
Activities
The activities at Arrowpoint are numerous, educational and exciting. Whether it’s the thrill of Bird Watching, the excitement of Mountain Biking, Hiking, Kayaking, Pedal boating, Surf-Biking or simply relaxing in a hammock with a book, visitors will discover nature while having great fun and adventure.
Amerindian legend of the Patamona tribe has it that "Kai" one of the tribe’s chiefs (after whom the falls is named) committed self sacrifice by canoeing himself over the falls.
It was believed this would encourage the Great Spirit "Makonaima’ to save the tribe from being destroyed by the savage rival tribe the "Carabishis". In addition, the Kaieteur national park support’s a mirco environment with Tank Bromelaids, the largest in the world, in which the tiny golden frog spends its entire life. The rarely seen Cock-of-the-rock can sometimes be seen nesting nearby. The lucky visitor may also see the famous flights of the Swifts or Makonaima birds which nest under the vast shelf of rock carved by the water over the centuries.
Note :
The aircraft will do two passes over the Kaieteur Falls - One to the right and one to the left for photo opportunities.
This is a flying adventure taking you to Kaieteur & Orinduik Falls for an all inclusive one day tour. The Aircraft departs from Ogle and lands at Kaieteur after a 1 hour 5 minutes flight. Two hours are spent on ground touring the Kaieteur National Park, and viewing of the majestic Kaieteur Falls from several vantage positions. The Aircraft then takes you for a 25 minutes flight to Orinduik Falls which is located on the Guyana/Brazilian Border, amongst rolling savannah hills. Here you have Lunch, bathe and relax for 2 hours before boarding the aircraft for a 1:30 hour flight back to Ogle.
Kaieteur Falls
Discovered by European, Charles Barrington Brown, on April 29, 1870. These falls are situated in the heart of the Guyana's rainforest on the Potaro River, which is a tributary to the mighty Essequibo River. Kaieteur is considered one of the world's natural wonders. It flows over a sandstone conglomerate tableland into a deep gorge, a drop of 822ft or 5 times the height of Niagara Falls. There are no other falls in the world with the magnitude of this sheer drop of 721 ft. This fact make the falls a must see phenomenon.
Orinduik Falls
Where the Rainforest suddenly gives way to wide expanses of rolling Savannah hills and the Ireng River flows the divide, forming the border between Guyana and its giant neighbor Brazil, lies a wonder for the eyes to behold Orinduik Water Falls. Cascading over small & giant rocks of solid jasper, forming natural swimming pools and body massaging Jacuzzis. The Smooth red Jasper is a marvel to see and touch. The name of this falls was derived from the Patamona word "Orin" which means sensational to feel.
Georgetown the chief port, capital and largest city of Guyana is situated on the right Bank of the Demerara River Estuary. It was chosen as a site for a fort to guard the early Dutch settlements of the Demerara River. The city of Georgetown was designed largely by the Dutch and is laid out in a rectangular pattern with wide tree lined avenues and irrigation canals that cris-cross the city. Most of the buildings in the city are wooden with unique architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. For the most part the buildings have Demerara shutters and designed fretwork which trim eaves and windows.
Main Street Georgetown provides several excellent examples of old colonial homes, a prime example of which is the State House, built in 1852. The State House is set in large gardens and is painted green and white and has hosted many visiting dignitaries. During your visit to Georgetown there are a number of interesting sights that should not be missed: the most famous being St. George's Cathedral. The Cathedral is one of the world's tallest free standing wooden buildings and was consecrated on 1892.
The Famous Stabroek Market, once described as a "bizarre bazaar", contains every conceivable item from house hold goods and gold jewellery to fresh meat and vegetables brought to town on the river daily. The clock tower can be seen for miles around and is a famous landmark. No trip to Georgetown would be complete without a visit to the Botanical Gardens and zoo. The Botanical Gardens houses one of the most extensive collection of tropical flora in the Caribbean and are laid out with ponds, canals, kissing bridges and bandstand.
